Rough Terrain (Masted) Counterbalance training in Derby
A counterbalance forklift built for mud, gravel and slopes: big tyres, high ground clearance, four-wheel drive and a diesel engine.

About the rough terrain (masted) counterbalance
Rough terrain masted forklifts (sometimes called masted rough terrain or RTFLs) are counterbalance trucks engineered for unprepared ground. Large-diameter, deep-tread tyres, a high chassis and usually four-wheel drive let them work on building sites and farms where a warehouse truck would bog down or tip.
The mast and controls are familiar to any counterbalance operator, but the ground is not. The course concentrates on reading terrain, travelling on slopes with the load uphill, soft ground and hidden hazards, and the much greater stopping distances on loose surfaces.
Master-category rough terrain training is often required by construction main contractors alongside CSCS, so ask us if you need a particular card.
What the course covers

- Driving on slopes, soft ground and uneven surfaces
- Load handling on gradients and in wind

- Refuelling, parking and shutdown
