About the double deep reach truck
Double deep racking stores two pallets back to back in each bay, which can increase storage capacity by around 30 per cent in the same floor space. To reach the rear pallet a double deep reach truck has a telescopic or two-stage pantograph that extends the forks well beyond the outriggers.
That extra reach changes the physics. Rated capacity falls sharply at full extension and the load is a long way from the truck's centre of gravity, so the operator has to read the derated capacity chart and keep the truck square to the racking. Visibility at the rear position of the bay is limited, so modern trucks are usually fitted with fork cameras.
The course builds on standard reach-truck skills and adds the extended-reach discipline: sequencing pallets so the front position is not blocked, confirming the rear position is clear, and working at height with the pantograph fully out.
What the course covers
- Pre-use checks with particular attention to the pantograph and hydraulics
- Reduced capacity at extension and reading the derated load chart
- Front and rear position stacking in double deep racking
- Pallet sequencing and stock rotation implications
- Camera-assisted placement at height
- Battery handling and shutdown

Double Deep Reach Truck training questions
Our drivers already hold reach-truck certificates — do they need a full course?
No. A one-day conversion course is usually enough for experienced reach operators to be certificated on double deep.
Can we train on standard reach and double deep in the same week?
Yes, we often run them back to back. Ask for a combined quote.
