Forklift training in Derby and Derbyshire
If your business needs forklift operators trained, tested and certificated, speak to Forklift Agency on 01332 298298.
We have been training businesses in Derby and across the UK since 2007, using fully qualified forklift instructors registered with the accredited bodies that provide HSE-recognised forklift training. Our instructors come to you and train your employees on site, on the trucks they will actually drive, in the environment they work in. Training can be built around a few of your day-to-day tasks so operators are confident from the first shift.
Every instructor carries a laptop or tablet for the safety videos and all the paperwork needed for the course, has been vetted by us and has worked with Forklift Agency for years, and holds their own public liability insurance.
Certificates are usually sent out within 14 days of training where a credit account is in place, or 28 days where payment is received by other means. Credit accounts are available to businesses subject to a credit assessment and references; the first job is always paid up front.
We train on every type of forklift truck
One page per truck, with what the course covers and how long it takes.
Counterbalance Forklift
The classic forklift. Forks at the front, a heavy counterweight at the back, and no outriggers — so it can drive right up to a load.
Reach Truck
Built for narrow aisles and high racking. The mast or forks reach forward to pick and place pallets without the truck itself moving.
Double Deep Reach Truck
A reach truck with an extended pantograph, able to store pallets two-deep in the same racking bay to boost storage density.
4-Way (Multi-Directional) Reach Truck
A reach truck whose wheels rotate ninety degrees, so it can carry long loads sideways down a narrow aisle.
VNA Truck (Man-Up and Man-Down)
Very narrow aisle trucks work in guided aisles barely wider than a pallet, lifting to 15 metres or more. Man-up versions raise the operator with the load.
Bendi and Flexi (Articulated) Forklift
Articulated trucks that bend in the middle, so they can unload a lorry outside and then stack in a 1.8 metre aisle without changing machines.
How on-site training works
- You tell us the truck, the people and the postcode. We quote a fixed price, usually the same day.
- We book an instructor around your shifts. Days, nights or weekends at no extra cost, subject to availability.
- The instructor arrives with everything. Safety videos, theory material, cones, test papers. You supply the truck and a safe area.
- Theory, pre-use checks, practical, test. Our six-element course, run entirely at your premises.
- Certificates are posted to you. Within 14 days on a credit account. Operators are then legally trained and your records are in order.

Questions we get asked
Do you offer forklift training for individuals?
Unfortunately not. Forklift Agency only provides on-site training at company premises where forklift trucks are available. If you are an individual, our Forklift Training Centres website lists training centres by region, or search "forklift training centres" on Yell.
Where does the training take place?
At your premises, on your trucks, in your working environment. We do not run a training centre. Our instructors bring everything else — laptop or tablet for the safety videos, cones, test paperwork and certificates.
Which accreditations do your instructors hold?
Our instructors are registered with RTITB, AITT or ITSSAR, the accrediting bodies whose certificates are recognised by the HSE under the Approved Code of Practice L117. Each instructor carries their own public liability insurance and has been vetted by us.
How long does forklift training take?
A novice counterbalance course for three people takes three days. Reach trucks, VNA and telehandlers take longer. Refresher and conversion courses are usually one day. We will confirm the duration when we quote.
How many people can you train at once?
Up to three novices per instructor on one truck is the accredited-body limit. For refresher courses we can test more candidates in a day. If you have a large group we can send more than one instructor.
Do you charge extra for evenings, nights or weekends?
No. Our instructors fit into your shift pattern, including early mornings and nights, at no extra cost, subject to availability.
