About the pedestrian stacker truck
A stacker truck is the step up from a pallet truck: it has a mast and can lift a pallet into racking. Most are pedestrian-operated with a tiller; some have a fold-down platform for riding. Straddle-leg models carry the load between the legs for stability, while counterbalanced stackers can handle closed-bottom pallets.
Stackers lift real weight to real height with the operator standing a metre away, so the stability principles of a bigger forklift all apply. The course covers approach to racking, keeping the mast vertical, and the greater fall risk of placing a pallet at 4 metres with the operator looking up.
This is a popular course for businesses that move stock between a shop floor and a stock room or mezzanine, and it suits mixed groups of staff.
What the course covers
- Pre-use checks of mast, chains, forks and tiller switch
- Operator position and tiller control
- Stacking and de-stacking in racking and block stacks
- Load assessment and the capacity plate
- Working near pedestrians and in retail environments
- Charging and parking
