Forks at the front, a heavy counterweight at the back, and no outriggers — so it can drive right up to a load. - [Reach Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/reach-truck/): Built for narrow aisles and high racking. The mast or forks reach forward to pick and place pallets without the truck itself moving. - [Double Deep Reach Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/double-deep-reach-truck/): A reach truck with an extended pantograph, able to store pallets two-deep in the same racking bay to boost storage density. - [4-Way (Multi-Directional) Reach Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/multi-directional-four-way-reach-truck/): A reach truck whose wheels rotate ninety degrees, so it can carry long loads sideways down a narrow aisle. - [VNA Truck (Man-Up and Man-Down)](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/vna-very-narrow-aisle/): Very narrow aisle trucks work in guided aisles barely wider than a pallet, lifting to 15 metres or more. Man-up versions raise the operator with the load. - [Bendi and Flexi (Articulated) Forklift](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/bendi-flexi-articulated/): Articulated trucks that bend in the middle, so they can unload a lorry outside and then stack in a 1.8 metre aisle without changing machines. - [Pivot Steer Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/pivot-steer/): Pivot steer and articulated trucks share a hinged chassis; the pivot steer category covers machines that steer by bending the frame rather than turning the wheels. - [Powered Pallet Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/powered-pallet-truck/): Pedestrian and rider-operated electric pallet trucks for moving pallets at floor level — the workhorse of goods-in, goods-out and vehicle loading. - [Pedestrian Stacker Truck](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/pedestrian-stacker/): A walk-behind or ride-on truck with a mast, for stacking pallets to 3 to 6 metres where a full forklift is too big or too costly. - [Telehandler (Telescopic Handler)](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/telehandler/): A rough-terrain machine with a telescopic boom that lifts, reaches and places loads at height and distance — the forklift of construction and agriculture. - [Order Picker (Low, Medium and High Level)](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/order-picker/): Trucks that lift the operator with the forks so they can pick individual cases straight from racking. Classified by working height. - [Rough Terrain (Masted) Counterbalance](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/rough-terrain-counterbalance/): A counterbalance forklift built for mud, gravel and slopes: big tyres, high ground clearance, four-wheel drive and a diesel engine. - [Side Loader](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-types/side-loader/): The truck for very long loads. The mast sits in the middle of a flat deck and reaches out sideways to pick timber, steel and pipe. ## Course levels - [Novice Forklift Training](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-training/novice/): For staff who have never driven a forklift. Three to five days on-site, ending with the accredited test and certificate. - [Semi-Experienced Forklift Training](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-training/semi-experienced/): For operators who have driven informally but never been formally trained and certificated. Usually two days. - [Refresher Forklift Training](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-training/refresher/): The HSE recommends refresher training every three to five years. A one-day course that re-tests and re-certificates experienced operators. - [Conversion Forklift Training](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/forklift-training/conversion/): For certificated operators moving onto a different type of truck: counterbalance to reach, reach to VNA, and so on. One to two days. ## Derbyshire towns and cities covered - [Derby](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/derby/): City of Derby (DE1, DE3, DE21 to DE24) - [Chesterfield](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/chesterfield/): Chesterfield Borough (S40 to S45) - [Ilkeston](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/ilkeston/): Erewash (DE7) - [Swadlincote](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/swadlincote/): South Derbyshire (DE11, DE12) - [Long Eaton](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/long-eaton/): Erewash (NG10) - [Buxton](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/buxton/): High Peak (SK17) - [Glossop](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/glossop/): High Peak (SK13) - [Belper](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/belper/): Amber Valley (DE56) - [Ripley](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/ripley/): Amber Valley (DE5) - [Heanor](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/heanor/): Amber Valley (DE75) - [Alfreton](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/alfreton/): Amber Valley (DE55) - [Matlock](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/matlock/): Derbyshire Dales (DE4) - [Ashbourne](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/ashbourne/): Derbyshire Dales (DE6) - [Bolsover](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/bolsover/): Bolsover (S44) - [Dronfield](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/dronfield/): North East Derbyshire (S18) - [Staveley](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/staveley/): Chesterfield Borough (S43) - [Clay Cross](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/clay-cross/): North East Derbyshire (S45) - [Shirebrook](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/shirebrook/): Bolsover (NG20) - [Bakewell](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/bakewell/): Derbyshire Dales (DE45) - [Wirksworth](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/wirksworth/): Derbyshire Dales (DE4) - [Eckington](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/eckington/): North East Derbyshire (S21) - [Sandiacre](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/sandiacre/): Erewash (NG10) - [Castle Donington and Melbourne](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/castle-donington/): South Derbyshire border (DE73, DE74) - [Borrowash and Spondon](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/borrowash-spondon/): Erewash and Derby (DE21, DE72) - [New Mills and Whaley Bridge](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/areas/new-mills-whaley-bridge/): High Peak (SK22, SK23) ## Frequently asked questions - **Do you offer forklift training for individuals?** Unfortunately not. Forklift Agency only provides on-site training at company premises where forklift trucks are available. If you are an individual, our Forklift Training Centres website lists training centres by region, or search "forklift training centres" on Yell. - **Where does the training take place?** At your premises, on your trucks, in your working environment. We do not run a training centre. Our instructors bring everything else — laptop or tablet for the safety videos, cones, test paperwork and certificates. - **Which accreditations do your instructors hold?** Our instructors are registered with RTITB, AITT or ITSSAR, the accrediting bodies whose certificates are recognised by the HSE under the Approved Code of Practice L117. Each instructor carries their own public liability insurance and has been vetted by us. - **How long does forklift training take?** A novice counterbalance course for three people takes three days. Reach trucks, VNA and telehandlers take longer. Refresher and conversion courses are usually one day. We will confirm the duration when we quote. - **How many people can you train at once?** Up to three novices per instructor on one truck is the accredited-body limit. For refresher courses we can test more candidates in a day. If you have a large group we can send more than one instructor. - **Do you charge extra for evenings, nights or weekends?** No. Our instructors fit into your shift pattern, including early mornings and nights, at no extra cost, subject to availability. - **When will we receive the certificates?** Certificates are usually posted within 14 days of training if you have a credit account with us, or within 28 days of payment being received by other methods. - **Can we open a credit account?** Yes. Credit accounts are available to businesses and are subject to a credit assessment and references. The first job must always be paid upfront. - **Does a forklift certificate expire?** A certificate of basic training does not have a legal expiry date, but the HSE recommends refresher training every three to five years, or sooner after an incident, a long gap in driving or a change of truck. - **What does the truck need before training?** It must be in a safe working condition with a current Thorough Examination (LOLER) report, and we need a safe area to work in. If you are short of a truck, we can suggest local hire companies. - **Which areas do you cover?** All of Derby and Derbyshire from our Derby unit, plus the rest of the UK through Forklift Agency. We have a dedicated site for Nottingham. - **Are you VAT registered?** Yes. Forklift Agency Limited is VAT registered and all quotes are given excluding VAT unless stated. ## Other pages - [About](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/about/) - [Contact](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/contact/) - [FAQ](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/faq/) - [Legal information](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/legal/) - [Privacy policy](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/privacy-policy/) - [Sitemap](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/sitemap/) and [XML sitemap](https://forklifttrainingderby.co.uk/sitemap.xml) ## Related sites - https://forkliftagency.co.uk — Forklift Agency, national on-site training - https://forklifttrainingnottingham.co.uk — Forklift Training Nottingham - https://forklifttrainingcentres.co.uk — directory of training centres for individuals
